Infusion pumps and syringe pumps.
What is a syringe pump?
A syringe pump administers a drug at a controlled flow rate, over long periods and at sometimes very low rates. Flow rate accuracy directly determines patient safety in intensive care, neonatology and anaesthesia.

Where is it used?
Syringe pumps are bought in batches and rack-mounted at the patient's bedside, as an intensive care patient may receive six to eight simultaneously. A uniform fleet is particularly important here: different models within the same department multiply the risk of programming errors. In neonatology, the ability to deliver very low flow rates accurately is the deciding criterion. The cost of consumables and compatibility with the syringes available on the local market weigh heavily in the total cost of ownership.
What to check before choosing?
- Accepted syringe sizes and automatic detection of the syringe in place
- Flow rate range, in particular very low rates for neonatology
- Occlusion pressure management and alarm speed
- Rack mounting for patients with several lines
