Surgical lighting
Ceiling-mounted and mobile LED surgical lights for operating rooms.
What is a surgical light?
A surgical light — the French term “scialytique” literally means “shadowless” — illuminates the surgical field without casting the shadow of the surgeon's hands or head. LED models have replaced halogen: less heat above the field, a much longer service life and more faithful colour rendering of tissue.

Where is it used?
The surgical light is fixed to the ceiling of the operating room, which requires a load study and drilling of the slab: its installation is planned with the building works, not afterwards. Models on a mobile stand are used in minor surgery rooms, recovery rooms or obstetrics, where there is no ceiling constraint. The number of light heads is decided according to the specialty: two heads for major surgery, a single one being sufficient for day surgery. The integrated camera, available on some ranges, is used for teaching and broadcasting, but adds to the budget and is only worthwhile in a university centre.
What to check before choosing?
- Central illuminance, expressed in lux: up to 160 000 lux on operating theatre ranges
- Diameter of the light field, adjustable to suit the type of procedure
- Colour temperature and colour rendering index, which determine how tissue is read
- Ceiling mount or mobile stand, depending on the room configuration
